#ChildrenDeservePeace

December 17, 2014—Roots of Peace, a humanitarian non-profit organization, vows to continue the effort to plant the roots of peace so future generations of children may thrive worldwide. In response to recent acts of terror against children, we reaffirm our mission of grounding peace through agriculture and education.

Since 2001, Roots of Peace has provided economic empowerment for peace through agriculture and education in Afghanistan, a country 80% dependent upon agri-business. By providing economic stability and food security, we address the “root” causes of conflict and terror. We have trained over 100,000 farmers and created more than 7,000 full-time jobs in Afghanistan, working in all 34 provinces. The net result is employment for rural farmers and families, who now have viable alternatives to conflict. This proven model must be expanded across borders into Pakistan, and neighboring countries, where farmers and their children are at risk.

In addition, Roots of Peace removed landmines in the Fields of Bethlehem, where eight children died. Working with both Israelis and Palestinians, we removed seeds of hatred, caused by landmines, from a playground in Husan, a Muslim village, located four miles from the historic Nativity Church. Our humanitarian goal is #ChildrenDeservePeace.

“Roots of Peace vows to continue our efforts to make the land safe for farmers to plant, and children to walk, on war-torn lands in Afghanistan, Croatia, Israel, Palestine, Vietnam and around the world,” states Heidi Kuhn. “As a mother and CEO, I believe that #ChildrenDeservePeace.”
